New Property Developments Boost Confidence on the Costa del Sol
You can’t miss the sight of cranes reappearing on the skyline or the wave of new developments across the Costa del Sol.
Here in La Cala de Mijas, where our team is based, the renewed construction activity is more visible than ever. We’re delighted to see new jobs being created and growing interest in property investment in the area.
It’s the busiest period we’ve seen since the early 2000s — the golden age of real estate. This time, the growth is being driven by strong demand from both international and Spanish buyers.
A Surge in New Construction Projects
According to Sur in English, one-third of all new development projects completed in Andalusia between March 2018 and March 2019 were in Málaga province.
Reports from both a real estate firm and a valuation company confirm the strength of the property market here — not only in terms of new housing construction but also rising property prices.
The Tinsa report revealed that property prices in Mijas increased by 15.3%. However, the firm’s commercial director pointed out that there is still a long way to go before reaching the 2007 price peak.
He also stressed that stricter lending regulations and gradual price increases are keeping the market stable. As a result, the Costa del Sol is far better protected from the kind of property bubble seen before the financial crisis.
Growing Business Confidence and Investment
The confidence in Costa del Sol real estate is being echoed by major business investments across the region.
For example:
-
The Greek hotel chain Ikos has invested €150 million in a new luxury hotel in Estepona, which opened in 2020.
-
The Four Seasons Group is developing a luxury beachfront hotel and private residences in Marbella, with a €650 million investment.
These projects, along with many others, are creating jobs, boosting tourism, and further strengthening the local economy.
La Cala de Mijas: A Prime Location for Rentals
Here in La Cala de Mijas, we are witnessing strong demand for both long-term rentals and holiday lets.
-
Long-term rentals are now sought after year-round.
-
Holiday rentals remain extremely popular between April and September.
La Cala’s charm lies in its beachfront location, friendly community, excellent restaurants and bars, and weekly market. Its proximity to Fuengirola, Mijas Pueblo, and Málaga Airport, along with great golf courses and leisure facilities, makes it a top choice for tenants and holidaymakers alike.
What Guests Are Looking For
Our holiday rental clients love properties in well-known developments such as:
-
La Cala Golf Resort
-
Dream Gardens
-
La Cala Azul
They prefer apartments that are close to the beach or within walking distance of the town centre. Features such as communal pools, gardens, modern design, and large terraces are especially popular.
Inland golf properties are also in high demand. Guests enjoy the peace, panoramic views, and direct access to golf courses, making these homes ideal for both short and long stays.
We’re Looking for More Properties
Due to growing demand, HomeCare Property Management is actively seeking more holiday rental properties in La Cala de Mijas.
